There are special Mardi Gras treats to be found all over Universal Orlando Resort during Mardi Gras: International Flavors of Carnaval 2023. At the recently-refurbished Croissant Moon Bakery in Universal’s Islands of Adventure, guests can enjoy a banana upside-down cake with a not-so-hidden baby figure on top.
Croissant Moon Bakery also has a Mardi Gras macaron and giant king cake available.
Mardi Gras Banana Upside Down Cake – $5.49
The banana upside-down cake comes with either a golden or purple baby figure. Baby figures are traditionally hidden in Mardi Gras king cakes and whoever finds the baby is said to have luck and prosperity.
We were really surprised by this treat. The cake was moist and fresh. It was a bit like banana bread, with actual pieces of banana in the cake.
It also reminded us of a coffee cake with cinnamon topping, but it was denser than a coffee cake usually is.
The chocolate on top was a nice touch and we almost wish there had been more.
We highly recommend this Mardi Gras treat, especially if you like banana bread or coffee cake.
