More information is now available about the recent incident at “WaterWorld” in Universal Studios Hollywood when a performer was rushed to the hospital.
“WaterWorld” is a popular stunt show located at Universal Studios parks in Hollywood, Japan, Singapore, and Beijing based on the 1995 Kevin Costner-led film of the same name. Despite being a financial and critical disappointment, the stunt show received high marks and has been installed at four of the five Universal Studios parks around the world.
A witness who spoke with ABC7 Eyewitness News immediately after the incident said the performer was on one of the towers, and as part of the show, fell into the water, typical for the popular stunt show. But workers then noticed he did not come out of the water on cue and dove in to pull him out. After being pulled backstage, the show was canceled mid-performance, and guests were escorted out.
KTLA reports that paramedics responded to the scene just after 2:10 p.m. The man received CPR at the scene and was conscious and breathing when transported to the hospital.
A Universal Studios Hollywood spokesperson shared this statement: “We can confirm a performer with one of our long-standing show vendors was transported to the hospital following a stunt during an afternoon performance and our thoughts are with him as he receives care. Details surrounding the event are being reviewed. As always, safety is our top priority in our day-to-day operations.”
