Potato Sambusa – $10.99

Pastry filled with curry-spiced potato and mixed vegetables, served with mango chutney

This deep-fried pastry full of potatoes and other vegetables is doused in warming spices and is just fantastic.

It looks like chunks of potato when you cut it open, but as soon as you bite into it, they’re so soft and thoroughly cooked that it turns into a bite of mashed potatoes in your crunchy pastry crust.

The mango chutney is sweet and thoroughly spiced with ginger, almost unnecessarily so. There are so many spices already in the sambusa that to have it in the sauce becomes just a touch overpowering.

The sweetness is welcome, but the addition of the hefty amount of ginger isn’t needed as it throws off the well-balanced flavors of the sambusa itself.

Overall, it’s a delicious little puff pastry snack that really hits the spot and is a wonderful substitute for fries or any of the other fried sides one may get at the theme park.
