In November, 2020, McDonald’s began releasing a line of Happy Meal toys to celebrate the opening of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Just a week after the toys began their release, they were pulled from McDonald’s locations nationwide due to an error in the QR code game pieces found inside the toy packaging and on the Happy Meal boxes. McDonald’s promised to bring the toys back without game pieces as soon as a few days later, but many locations nationwide never made the toys available again for one reason or another.
Now, nearly 18 months later, the same toy line is finally being reissued as a Walt Disney World 50th anniversary line of attraction vehicles. This time around, the line consists of only eight toys where the initial release had 10 toys. In the reissue, the available toys include Mickey and Minnie in Mickey’s car from Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Goofy in the train from Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Mickey in a space ship from Mission: SPACE, Pluto on a Jungle Cruise boat, Donald in a Mad Tea Party teacup, Minnie on Dinosaur, Goofy on Expedition Everest, and Daisy flying over Spaceship Earth on Soarin’.
This time around, some of the toys have a special spot of gold in honor of the 50th anniversary.
The original release had all of these toys, as well as Mickey on Tower of Terror and Minnie on Pirates of the Caribbean.
We headed out to McDonald’s this afternoon to grab a Happy Meal and take a look at the new box art.
The box features all eight toys lined up, as all the toys connect to form one long parade train.
Beyond the toys and the 50th anniversary logo, the box only has some sparkles scattered around a white background.
The sides of the box mention the RMHC donations from each happy meal.
The bag for each toy is the same as it was for the initial release. While the box and commercial tout the 50th anniversary, the bag still says “Walt Disney World Celebrates Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway!”
The toy itself is also unchanged, with no special imprint or decal to denote the 50th anniversary promotion.
McDonald’s has also released a commercial promoting the toy line reissue, which is the same animation from the commercial the last time these were released but with new narration and end card. You can see the commercial below:
Will you be adding these toys to your collection now that they’re back? Let us know in the comments below.

I saw a video and they mention special gold versions of the toys shown on the displayer with a gold hat goofy
hey Eric – can you link the video?
Yes, I just Found this one.. Goofy with a Gold Hat and a Golden Mickey Head on the Side of the Ice the Yeti is in!!
My son just got a Daisy with a gold bow.
My son also got a golden hat Donald Duck that also had a gold Mickey symbol on the bottom of the teacup
I feel so dumb I opened it but I got the gold spotted one!
Ok how about bringing back mickey house of terror and Minnie on pirate ship?
So apparently there are some Minnie on pirate ships still out there. We got one that was still in the 2020 packaging. I went to another McDonalds and they had one too. Would love the same to be true about the Mickey Tower of Terror. My grandson’s came into town this week and we realized this was a promo when they got their happy meals. My older grandson (9 years) got a Goofy with gold hat and one without for my younger grandson. This sent us on the hung for the rest.
My daughter received 1 minie with the gold marking and the goofy with gold marking
I just got Mickey and Minnie in the red car and the one tire has a golden Mickey = round circle with 2 ears
Sad chubby bird and her kids are not on these she is as much part of the ride as any of the fab… plus that looks like space mountain it would be very wrong of disney to market the death trap when they know no one rides it and most folks still are long live horizons! Mission space never fit epcot horizons was epcot and actually would still have a story to tell. Its very sad but still cute toy idea.
Space Mountain is always busy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen less than an hour wait. Never heard of people actually dying on it. Horizons on the other hand was walk on, and structurally falling apart. I personally loved Horizon, and not really a fan of Space Mountain, but it makes no sense to create a McDonalds toy intended for children based on a ride that closed a quarter decade ago.
There is no longer a Future World, so I say put a Horizons 2.0 in Tomorrowland where that Hyperion Theater concept was suppose to be, or just flat out build a fifth park already and stick it there.
Got all 10 last time, although I had to get Teacup Donald on eBay. Wouldn’t be surprised to see high eBay prices for Pirate Ship Minnie and especially Tower of Terror Mickey. Definitely one of the nicer Happy Meal promotions.
How do we make sure to get at least one of each? Are they released weekly or just random? How often did you go to get each one?
Traditionally, two would be released a week. 8 toys would be a four week promotion. They are not in order, so numbers mean nothing. You could get #10 (or in this case, 8) on the very first day. I don’t know at what day they start, but the begging and end of the week, they may only have one kind. We went Thursday, and all they had was Daisy, and my guy checked the back. Mid week, you may find two varieties. Go to other locations same week. One may have #8, while the other up the road has #1. That was the only way I was able to get the bulk of the first 50th toys, by going to 4 different locations during a time in which they weren’t super busy.
I was able to get #6 Mickey Mouse at the Hollywood Tower Hotel and #7 Minnie Mouse at the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at McDonald’s locations in Northern California. So I have been able to collect 10 total Disney toys for this current promotion as well, despite the in-store display and happymeal.com showing only eight toys. Also, I have been getting a mix of 50th anniversary packages and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway packages.
We got Daisy yesterday, and the bag had 50th graphics instead of the Runaway Railway graphics. I guess your location has old stock. That’s how we got Donald in 2021.
I got the ToTone today…
This is allset up to make us believe we are going to get them all’s but the prices of gas now day’s. LOL 😆 😂 🤣 yes I gotten the first set of 50th anniversary. No more because I had to order some of them.most of the places didn’t Want to give them out we always had to keep going backed. I say GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!! the prices of thing’s now day’s.
My daughter has a Minnie & dinosaur toy with a gold Mickey logo on the hood.
I was so excited when I saw the happy meal box on Tom’s desk but then I saw the only two I’m missing in the collection are not being rereleased. Oh well. I still love them.
Can I get the entire terain
I picked up the Mickey & Minnie Runaway Railway car & Tower of Terror the 1st time Round so I am excited to see all of these return!
I have 3 for mcdobalds disay boards from the first release and 2 full sets in the bags with one full set on display out of the bags.
And reason why they are only doing 8 toys?
I got a Happy Meal today and got the Minnie Pirates of the Caribbean one. I was so confused because it wasn’t shown on the box, but I guess I got lucky with a leftover!
Ok how about bringing back mickey house of terror and Minnie on pirate ship?
I got a goofy one with a golden Mickey head on the side. What exactly does they mean?
So what happens when you find one cuz my son got a gold hat Donald duck today
When does this McDonald’s promotion end?
Did you ever find out the answer? I have the same.
