Walt Disney Imagineering Files Permit for New Lighting Package Coming to Spaceship Earth at EPCOT

The Spaceship Earth refurbishment was put on pause for the reopening of EPCOT, but during the recent EPCOT – The Magic of Possibility D23 presentation, it was revealed that Spaceship Earth will be receiving an enhanced lighting package as part of its overhaul. Now, it seems work is moving forward on the project, as a permit has been filed for “installation of lighting supports” at EPCOT.

Concept art for the newly-redone entrance for the park hinted at the new lighting package, with a rainbow of color shining on the geodesic sphere of Spaceship Earth. The fountain will also have a new lighting package, with a beam of light shining from the middle of the lucite pylons.

The permit, filed by Walt Disney Imagineering, lists InterAmerica Stage as the contractor:

InterAmerica Stage, Inc., located in Sanford, FL, is an established industry leader in stage rigging, stage machinery and specialty theatrical equipment. According to Imagineer Zach Riddley, the enhanced lighting package will be installed for the exterior of Spaceship Earth, with custom programming that connects this icon of EPCOT to its surroundings, encapsulates the park’s transformation, and brings unique evening moments to EPCOT guests.
