Must-follow Twitter user and aerial photographer bioreconstruct shared photos today of the drained Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom. The photos provide an better look at the Liberty Square Riverboat track as well as the Liberty Belle’s refurbishment.
This view from the southwest corner captures the entire Magic Kingdom. Rivers of America is at the left, just east of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. TRON: Lightcycle / Run is under construction at the top right corner, behind Space Mountain.
This photo provides a view of the theme park from the west.
From above Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Splash Mountain, the Liberty Square Riverboat ride system track is clearly visible.
Tom Sawyer Island, normally surrounded by the Rivers of America, as seen from the air. Note The Haunted Mansion queue line canopy to the left.
Looking over Liberty Square, we can see stilts that support Aunt Polly’s and other Tom Sawyer Island structures.
Bioreconstruct also provided a look at the water management system used to control the flow of water at the theme park.
The Liberty Belle is in dry dock back stage. The boat is able to leave its track to travel backstage by way of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake.
The arrow points to the Liberty Belle. The pontoon boat is entering the backstage dock area from Bay Lake.

I love the rare sight of seeing The Rivers of America drained. It’s part of the circle of life…
Can we talk about what is described as “the water management system used to control the flow of water at the theme park.” That is a lock used to raise the Liberty Bell form the water level of the Seven Seas Lagoon to the level of the River’s of America. If that sounds strange think about walking from the ferry boat dock to the Castle. It’s up hill. The park sits up on a built up area about one story above the water level of the Seven Seas Lagoon. And the Rivers of America is constructed to be at the same level as the park. So to take the boat from the Lagoon to the Rivers of America you have to flood the lock and lift it up.
I am always amazed that this incredible place was created in a swamp. i love learning how its managed
⚡️Does anyone remember it was no more than 3 or 4 years ago the ‘Rivers of America’ we’re closed for a whole season as ‘new relaying of track’and ‘cleaning out’ the river was a massive undertaking then ???🤔
We were there last weekend and it’s a strange sight for sure. The one thing that stood out for me was the sewage smell coming from the mud on the bottom.
saw a picture from family member today that there are tracks / rails being placed in the riverbed…
