Work has officially begun on the reimagining of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, starting with the Great Ceremonial House, which will feature a “refreshed” exterior as part of its new look.
You’ll notice in the concept art that the number of crossbeams along the top of the Great Ceremonial House is greatly reduced, with fewer beams creating a “cleaner” appearance. Disney described the beam removal as something that would lend a more sophisticated look to the resort:
The Great Ceremonial House will continue to include the architectural detail of the crossbeams, though fans who look closely will notice fewer beams, creating a more sophisticated, cleaner design.
Today, crossbeam removal is now underway. From one end of the Great Ceremonial House, it appears that all of the beams are still in place…
However, upon closer inspection, it seems the first set of beams has been removed.
The change is most apparent as viewed from the pool area, which remains open for guests staying at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, the DVC portion of the resort.
Work is set to continue on Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort though Summer of 2021, with the resort’s rooms set to receive a Moana-themed makeover.
SIGH. Please stop “marriotting up” these themed resorts. Do we need a more sophisticated white washed Poly? NO! They did the same to the rooms at OLd Key West…. the Key west feel and theme is gone and its a nice “Marriott” now. I do not know about everyone but paying the extra money to stay on-site often is because of escaping to a place you would or could never go… Please stay deeply Polynesian.
Spineless… 😒
