Falling in love isn’t easy. Personally, I find it easier to fall in love with snacks. We could all use a little extra love right now, so when I spotted an assortment of “no melt ice cream” in the display case at Sugarplum’s Sweet Shop in Diagon Alley, I knew I had to go for the pretty pink one on the end.

This treat, sweetly named “Love Potion”, is a beautiful pink confection served in a tiny little stemmed glass, giving it the appearance of a miniature ice cream sundae. There’s even a small spoon already stuck in the side.

This no melt ice cream almost looks fake, just because it is so perfectly piped into the cup. Shiny chocolate pearls top off this treat, and you’ll even find one at the very bottom. A tiny gold heart made of white chocolate is placed delicately on top. I’m starting to feel the love.

We should basically call this extra thick frosting. It definitely earns the “no melt” portion of its name, seeing as we wandered all over Diagon Alley with it and it still looked exactly the same. If only all the food we photograph could be so cooperative.

Don’t try this at home, kids. Only a skilled snack professional should attempt to take photos like this.

It might look like Play Doh, but it tastes like sugar. The texture might look a bit odd, but it’s really just like eating thick cookie icing. There’s a reason it comes with a tiny spoon. You need to take tiny bites. The flavors are described as rose water and honey, but it tasted a bit more like a sweet vanilla. We didn’t detect any floral notes, but could pick up traces of the honey, slightly. The taste was very light, which is perfect on a warm day. I don’t think I could have guessed the flavor if the Team Members hadn’t told me ahead of time. The crispy chocolate pearls added a lot to this treat, and helped offset just the solid frosting taste with a little bit of crunch and chocolate flavor. Additionally, the white chocolate heart was one of the highlights here. Universal has some delicious white chocolate, as I’ve learned from my experience with the Cat in the Hat cupcake. Once I’d eaten all the decorative pieces, I was left with a pile of frosting that I just couldn’t finish.

The downside to this treat is that there is no packaging or boxes to take them with you. I returned to Sugarplum’s Sweetshop to ask for some sort of container, but I was told to “go to San Francisco.” That sounded like a far journey for someone who travels by Muggle transportation, so I parted ways with this sweet snack. Sometimes, love hurts.

Overall, I’m not really sure if I fell in love with this snack. For $6.00, it is a little overpriced, basically being frosting with no substance, but that’s pretty much the world of theme park snacks. If you’re craving a serious sugar rush, grab a no melt ice cream, but otherwise, skip Sugarplum’s Sweetshop and go right for the Butterbeer.
