Magic Kingdom’s signature park icon is about to get a big aesthetic upgrade. As part of these enhancements, work on draining the moat surrounding Cinderella’s Castle began today inside the park.
When we first arrived at the park this morning, dams were in place near the bridge to Liberty Square. A water pump inside the green box seen here was running at full steam.
Later on in the day, the tell-tale sign of the water level going down was on full display.
Bright green algae covering the formerly-submerged sections of rock work around the castle could be seen as the day went on.
Back at the site of the dam, the water level had also visibly gone down, as seen in the dirt levels on the scrim material around the dam.
Along the newly expanded walkway, you can also see that the water level is much lower now.

Nooooo!!!!!, don’t mind the colors or lighting, but the gold trim is horrible & cheap looking.
The great imagineer, Marc Davis, who was instrumental in creating the Haunted Manson and Pirates of the Caribbean, said “every time they change it, it’s not as good.” But they would never listen to him. If they wouldn’t listen to a Disney Legend – one who worked with and knee the mind of Walt Disney himself – they’re not going to listen to us either because they think they know better.
That said, I think this so called upgrade is overtly gaudy and out it character Cinderella and out of character of the park. I also think that the continuous lines created by the gold trim are going to ruin the forced perspective. Honestly, I think that there judgement if the current management is not close to the judgement of the earlier imagineers, can and certainly not close to that of Walt Disney and I am extremely sad about that.
Cinderella is simple and understated in her elegance. The color blue reminds me of her. They are trying to dress Audrey Hepburn up like Katy Perry. It’s just wrong.
