Over night, the newest pedestrian bridge over Buena Vista Drive was installed, connecting the upcoming Lemon Parking Garage to Disney Springs.
The bridge accesses Disney Springs through a landing zone between World of Disney and Basin in the Marketplace.
When it opens in 2019, the Lemon Parking Garage will be the third parking garage at Disney Springs, joining the existing Orange and Lime.
I’m surprised Disney would use a prefabed bridge like the one that just collapsed in Orlando this year. I may just have to use the crosswalk at street level instead.
The prefabricated Bridges on this project are nothing like the one that collapsed. The collapsed bridge was a pre-stressed concrete bridge with cables running through the concrete that was a unique design with a rather experimental approach to the construction and installation.
These are steel truss bridges of which the design approach and erection has been used on similar projects for over 100 years.
Your above statement would be akin to saying that all cars have the same crash rating as a Ford Pinto just because they are cars with 4 wheels.
Hello Goofy213, The new Parking Garage bridges in Mr. Corless’ article are prefabricated steel truss structures. The Orlando bridge that collapsed from my understanding was a precast concrete structure. These two types of structures are totally different animals.
