Chilled Potato and Leek Soup āVichyssoiseā with Bacon Lardons, Potato Croutons, Chive Oil and Crispy Leeks – $5.00
This is really watery and thin. The thick-cut chunks of bacon are nice and smoky, but the salt is overpowering. We got the mouthfeel from the oil but no flavor from it. Overall, the soup leaves a lot to be desired. This is one you can pass on.
Chargrilled Bison Ribeye with Creamy Leek Fondue, Red Wine Butter Sauce and Whipped Red Wine Goat Cheese – $8.25
The quality of the meat is fantastic. Itās tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. It wasnāt overly seasoned, but the meat is so good on its own that it doesnāt need that much. The goat cheese isnāt overpowering and pairs perfectly with the beef. The leek fondue is creamy and tastes like French onion soup, serving as a great accompaniment. This is one you must get.
*NEW* Spice Cake with Cream Cheese Icing, Candied Pecans and Parsnip – $4.50
This is a solid entry. The cake is really moist. We expected the spices we got from the spice cake, and we got those in abundance. The icing is sweet and incredibly rich. Unfortunately, the heat outside is too much to enjoy this dense cake. This is one you can share with a group.
Hibiscus Lemonade Cocktail featuring Islamorada Brewery & Distillery Hibiscus Gin ($30/bottle) – $11.50
The first sip of this beverage was extremely tart, to the point that it made our mouths pucker. After letting the ice melt a little bit, this was a really nice lemonade option. The strong notes of hibiscus and the dry gin help balance out the sour lemonade. If you enjoy tropical hibiscus flavors and dry gin, this would be a refreshing choice!
Grilled Vegetable Bruschetta with Marinated Peppers, Zucchini, Squash, Artichokes, Goat Cheese and Balsamic Glaze on Grilled Ciabatta
This is served cold over a grilled French bread. The menu says āciabattaā but this looked like French bread to us. You can taste each flavor in every bite, though it could’ve used a dash more of salt. The goat cheese was a great addition which goes perfectly with the vegetables. We would have liked more of it. The balsamic glaze adds a little touch of sweetness. For the price, this is a great snack to get your loop around the Flower & Garden Festival booths started.
Strawberry Rhubarb Upside-Down Cake with CrĆØme FraĆ®che Whipped Cream
This dessert was very fruit-forward, coming off as tart, but still very good. The cake was very moist, but that wasnāt a bad thing. You could taste the rhubarb, which was subtle and complimented the strawberry nicely. While the white dollop next to the cake might look like ice cream, itās actually fresh whipped cream. It was delicious! The whole dish was amazing, and rounded out a trio of rather impressive items.
Barbecue Seared Pork Tenderloin with Summer Succotash, Herb Butter and Grapefruit Vinaigrette
The meat was very tender and easy to cut. Itās nicely spiced, but not overly flavored, which is a good thing due to the barbecue sauce being very potent. The sauce tasted like a basic barbecue sauce, but with a little extra vinegar kick. The vegetables in the succotash add a nice texture and lightness to the dish, which were fresh and nicely cooked.
*NEW* Collective Arts Brewing Blueberry Elderberry Sparkling Hard Tea, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada (5.0% ABV) – $5.50 for 6 oz., $9.50 for 12 oz.
From Collective Arts Brewing: “This Sparkling Hard Tea is brewed with delicate White Tea leaves from the Fujian province of China, but finds its thrill with a sweet, tart boost from all-natural dried blueberries and just a tinge of earthy elderberries. Made from a malt base with real botanicals. 0g of sugar.”
*NEW* Ghost Mary: Translucent Bloody Mary with Boyd & Blair Cucumber Vodka ($25/bottle), Tomato Water, Horseradish, Celery Salt and a hint of Pepper – $11.50
This tastes like a watered down Bloody Mary, or at least a light version. It has an acidic tomato-y flavor, while the vodka can barely be tasted. The whole thing is watered down and muddled, accompanied by three cherry tomatoes on the bottom. This proved to be the most off putting beverage weāve had in a while. Skip this.
