Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Virtual Queue Remains Open Until Almost 8:00P.M. at EPCOT

In what seems to be a record, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind’s virtual queue at EPCOT was accepting guests until just before 8:00p.m. this evening, shattering the previous record which held the queue open until around 7:30p.m.

The space-traversing adventure has been open for just shy of a year, still taking advantage of the Virtual Queue system. Though spots remain a hot commodity for TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom, whose record currently stands at 93 minutes, the same cannot be said for Cosmic Rewind here at EPCOT.

Back in February the queue stayed open until around 7:30p.m. one day. It seems we’ve had another breakthrough, closing the queue automatically one hour before close for the first time.

When we viewed the queue at 7:54p.m., it was still possible to join with an estimated wait of 25 minutes. The queue seems to have closed at around 8:00p.m., with park close at EPCOT set for 9:00p.m. tonight.

Boarding Groups for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind are made available daily at 7:00a.m. and 1:00p.m. to guests with EPCOT Park Pass reservations and then all guests with Park Hopper tickets respectively. For most of its lifetime, these Boarding Groups have gone fairly quickly. But we were surprised to find this evening that upon arriving at EPCOT nearly six and a half hours later, Boarding Groups were still available — and with a short return time!

These decreases in demand are largely par for the course, close to its transition into standard Standby and Lightning Lane, there were some days when Rise of the Resistance Boarding Groups at Disney’s Hollywood Studios were fairly easy to pick up.

Disney did announce that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind would continue using Virtual Queue even as TRON Lightcycle / Run opened at the Magic Kingdom earlier this month.

Virtual Queue

Guests can join the virtual queue via the My Disney Experience app. When they join, they are assigned a boarding group and told an approximate return time. When the boarding group is called in My Disney Experience, guests can report to the attraction within the provided timeframe to ride it. Guests may need to still wait in a physical queue at the attraction. Read more about how to join the virtual queue for TRON Lightcycle / Run when it opens here.

The demand for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has been lessening now that the ride has been open for nearly a year. It’s easier for guests to obtain a virtual queue boarding group. Some guests had begun to speculate that it would stop using the system and allow guests to join the standby queue at their leisure.
