Walt Disney World may be completely overhauling their Park Pass reservation system early next year.
Right now, all guests are required to secure a Park Pass for the park and date of their choice in addition to their ticket.
The rumored update will mean guests with date-based theme park tickets will no longer need to make separate Park Pass reservations. Park entry will be guaranteed with their ticket purchase. Disney will still be controlling attendance, just by limiting ticket sales instead of Park Passes. Annual Passholders will still need to make Park Passes for the time being.
Park Hopping for regular ticket holders will be available at any time instead of just after 2:00 p.m. It will still be restricted for Annual Passholders, but they will be able to Park Hop earlier in the day than 2:00 p.m.
These changes will reportedly go into effect in early 2023, possibly as soon as January. Disney has been working on the update for months, but it will certainly reflect well on newly reinstated CEO Bob Iger. Former CEO Bob Chapek repeatedly defended the Park Pass system, though many guests are not happy with the Park Pass system as-is. Two Walt Disney World Annual Passholders filed a lawsuit over the system last month. A similar lawsuit against the Disneyland Resort, which has had even more issues with the Park Pass system, was filed in May 2022 and is still pending. Disneyland Paris Annual Passholders protested Park Passes last month.

I’m confused as to why regular pass holders won’t have time restrictions with park hopping but annual pass holders will. It doesn’t make sense to me.
I agree as annual pass holders we are a steady source of income from a business point. From a customer stand point over the last few years annual pass holders have been losing more and more of our benefits. Whens the last time you were invited to a soft opening? 2013 was the last time for me. This trend must stop.
This was confirmed when they raised the prices the other week, so nothing new here really.

Get rid of it all together, especially for annual pass holders!! It ruins the spontaneity and the magic of Disneyland!! Also all the extra line hoping, ride reservation stuff is ridiculous!! I already pay enough for an AP, I shouldn’t have to purchase the Genie+ scam!!

It’s about time, long over due. Many people make reservations and then don’t go. But you still can’t a reservation. By the time they have updated it. You have made other plans

This is great. It’s definitely a start.
We were at Disney World mid November. The experience wasn’t very good. Lines for rides were over 2 hours. The Genie+ just makes everything worse. This is the worse experience ever. Parks were packed. Why have a reservation system What about spontaneity. Many rides were down or closed. Food lines were long. It just doesn’t feel the same as in years past. We are DVC members and the resorts were not kept up. Very disappointing. Bring back the Very Merry Xmas parade for the whole Christmas season. I refuse to pay an extra $200. When your crammed together.

Does anyone know why I cannot make a reservation for WDW Magic Kingdon beginning January 30, 2023? Does this have anything to do with the modification to the reservation system?
