Aggressive, Entitled Squirrels Cause Trouble for Guests Dining at Walt Disney World

At Walt Disney World, adorable animals are typically celebrated, whether they’re mice, ducks, or chipmunks. But lately, a squirrel menace has invaded the resort.

On Sunday, WDWNT reporters captured this footage of a rather aggressive squirrel trying to sample a guest’s turkey leg at The American Adventure in EPCOT. While their attempt proved unsuccessful, they managed to cause an additional bit of chaos by knocking over a full soda cup.

Since then, readers have reached out to us with their own stories of unfortunate and terrifying squirrel encounters.

One responder had their own unique way of handling the situation:

Of course, this isn’t the first time WDWNT has come face-to-face with these would-be thieves. On Thursday, as our reporter sat down to try the new Peanut Butter Cold Brew Cookie and French Toast Nitro Cold Brew from Gideon’s Bakehouse at Disney Springs, they bravely stared down a squirrel who wanted to do a review of their own. Will their entitled behavior never cease?

A terrifying squirrel stalks his prey

Luckily, they were able to remove the tempting items before the squirrel attacked. Still, if you encounter one of these threatening creatures, be prepared to make a quick exit, and most importantly, don’t feed them.

  1. Charlie and her family were there at wdw just like the rest of resident animals before we all got there. That being said lets all stop feeding them like there your pets dropped food etc is one thing litterally feeding them is another. Its not just guests the cms feed the animals too. I knew a few when i wrked at wdw hence why i know charlie and the squriells are all probably her family line. Charlie herself lives at studios in the courtyard area!

  2. Chill out, it’s just a Sword in The Stone meet and greet.

Pretty soon Chapek will make this an up charge…

  3. I haven’t been menaced by squirrels but have been the target of an organized assault by birds at Flame Tree in AK. One flew around my head startling me, as I swung around rib meat I was eating flew to the ground, and immediately attacked by a couple birds, while another flew down and took a french fry from my tray. I am afraid that it isn’t just the guests who are getting more and more brazen and behaving badly, the wild life is also behaving badly as well.

  4. Oh, yeah it’s gotten REAL BAD lately. One early morning, I watched as one of the Furry little buggers raided a granola bowl right out from under the register and ran across the path towards River boat. Dragging the cup and being scolded by an angry cast member.
So, I don’t think this will be ended anytime soon. The property is to vast, the temptation too great, and it’s an easy score. And I’ve also noticed there are 2 kinds of ways people interact with the wildlife. They either feed/encourage them, or in some cases try to catch them and try to pet them. I think it’s a 3 factor solution, people need to appreciate/respect them and realize they are WILD. OR try and fight nature and get rid of them. Heck we should be glad they don’t start charging us like everything else.
I just consider them as part of Chapek’s NEW entertainment source.

  5. Of course ‘all of these stories’ are cute and charming in ‘a semi-alarming way’. But the ‘question’ begs:…are these ‘rodents’…yes, “rodents”…being ‘checked & monitored’ for rabies? If ‘anything’ could be ‘more problematic for WDW than ‘an attack’ from ‘rabid wild animals’…then what, I would ask?

Long live MICKEY MOUSE, DONALD DUCK…and CHIP & DALE of course…!

  6. The squirrels were there first! And apparently something is trying to catch them-A few have stubby tails where a predator has tried and failed.
