REVIEW: Staying Up for Hawaiian-Style Tenders, Poutine, and More Late Night Menu Bites at Red Rose Taverne and Galactic Grill in Disneyland

We stayed up late and partied hard to work up an appetite for the Late Night Bites at Red Rose Taverne and Galactic Grill. What did we learn? That skipping our bedtimes is definitely worth it.

Hawaiian-Style Tenders – $11.49

Tossed in a traditional Hawaiian-Style sauce served with french fries

This is the only new dish at Galactic Grill. These are regular chicken tenders tossed in a sweet and sour sauce, which is spicier than we expected. It has a hint of teriyaki flair to it.

The tenders are spicier than we would expect, but not unpleasantly so.

We suggest taking caution before ordering this for the kids, unless they are accustomed to spicy food. That being said, it’s not a bad dish, but it’s also nothing we’re too excited over.

Classic Poutine – $11.99

Slow-cooked Beef, Gravy, Cheese Curds, and Spiced Pickled Red Onions on Seasoned Waffle Fries

This is a delicious combination of incredibly tender slow-cooked beef, hearty gravy, cheese curds, and pickled red onions all atop perfectly seasoned waffle fries. The gravy does make the fries at the bottom of the bowl a little soggy, but that is to be expected with poutine.

The flavors work so well together that the texture can be forgiven. The spiced pickled red onions bring a bright kick of vinegar to cut through the richness of the beef and gravy.

This is a superb poutine dish and a wonderful late night treat.

Firelight Fries – $11.99

Tangy Spiced Chicken and Pepperoncini Ranch Sauce on Ranch-Seasoned Waffle Fries

These fries were described to us as a variant on poutine by the Cast Member, and it almost makes sense. The tangy spiced chicken is buffalo, light on the spice but heavy on the vinegar. And the pepperoncini ranch sauce is just regular ranch dressing with pepperoncini mixed in. We guess those are kind of the rough ingredients of poutine? You have meat, you have sauce, you have fries. But whereas the classic poutine left us supremely satisfied, this one left us cold.

Only a real buffalo chicken fan would pass on the classic poutine in favor of this buffalo chicken ranch combo. And such a devoted buffalo chicken fan would likely have had a better version of this somewhere else, so this would leave that person dissatisfied anyway.

Overall, we would skip this one in favor of any of the other offerings available on the late night menu here at Red Rose Taverne.

Bonsoir Chili Cheese Poutine – $11.99

Hearty Plant-Based Chili and Shredded Dairy-Free Cheese on Seasoned Waffle Fries

This is described on the menu and by Cast Members as a poutine, but it’s really not. It’s chili cheese fries. Whereas the Firelight Fries can be almost a variant on poutine because it’s not already an existing dish, just calling something poutine doesn’t make it not chili cheese fries.

That being said, they’re a decent late night bite with a spiced, hearty chili atop perfectly seasoned fries. In general, chili like this doesn’t work as well because the chunks don’t stick to the fries. Something like Wienerschnitzel or Tommy’s has the thinner, sauce-like chili, which may have been a better option here. But the chili itself is delicious and we would not turn away a full bowl of this.

It is all vegan and plant-based, and we definitely don’t miss the meat. The dairy-free cheese was fine so long as you don’t get a big mouthful of it, but intermixed with the chili and fries it does its job. Overall, we enjoyed the chili and we enjoyed the fries, but they seemed to exist side by side in the same bowl rather than coming together as a single dish.
