REVIEW: 20th Anniversary Strawberry Donut is a Sweet, Chewy Treat from Mamma Biscotti’s Bakery at Tokyo DisneySea

One sweet dish we’ve never managed to wrangle up since Tokyo DisneySea’s 20th Anniversary “Time to Shine!” celebration kicked off in September is the Mickey-shaped Strawberry Donut, since it drew lines as long as four hours for the first few months due to it being paired with the extremely popular 20th Anniversary souvenir lunch case. With its lines finally reduced, we at last got to give it a try on our most recent visit to Tokyo DisneySea!

Strawberry Donut – Â¥800 ($6.92)

The rather sizeable donut is shaped just like a Mickey Mouse silhouette and glazed on top with a full white icing coat and pink stripes of icing.

Inside are fresh strawberry halves (not frozen, amazingly enough) along with some strawberry jam and plenty of strawberry whipped cream.

And it all comes nicely bundled in this neat 20th Anniversrary wrapper featuring Mickey and Minnie in their “Time to Shine!” costumes.

The donut itself is alright. Foreign palates may not enjoy it as much because Japanese donuts tend to be more chewy, almost as if they’re made from mochi. Krispy Kreme this is not, unfortunately. The excessive amounts of strawberry upon strawberry upon strawberry on the inside also can feel a bit overwhelming, although the fresh strawberry halves are evenly proportioned and taste wonderful.

All in all, while this donut isn’t bad, it certainly will throw off non-Japanese tastes for sure. The weary may be best popping over to Ikspiari for a couple of Krispy Kreme donuts.
