PHOTOS: Thatched Roofing Added to New Porte-Cochére as Refurbishment Continues at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

While many other projects around Disney’s Polynesian Resort begin to wrap up, progress on the new monorail station chugs along. It’s already confirmed that the new station won’t open when the resort reopens on July 19. However, a new milestone has been reached at the nearby porte-cochére as crews begin to install the decorative thatched roofing.

No crews were working when we stopped by due to lightning in the area, but much progress has been made. The center portion of the porte-cochére is almost finished.

The decorative roofing helps evoke the Polynesian theme of the resort.

We also caught a snapshot of Monorail Yellow passing through the new station.

Work has yet to begin on the side sections of the roof, but you can compare this photo to the concept art below.

Waterproofing has been added to the roof of the walkway to the Grand Ceremonial House. Most of the walkway is covered in plastic sheeting, including the white railing that was recently added.

Near Pineapple Lanai, there was a lot of activity at the construction site. Crew members and an excavator were actively working.

The pile of dirt has grown considerably from our last update. They have also added what appears to be framing and rebar in preparation for concrete, possibly expanding the pathway.
