Disney is currently in negotiations with Justin Simien to direct the new film based on The Haunted Mansion.
Although Disney already made a live-action The Haunted Mansion film starring Eddie Murphy in 2003, this new film will be a completely separate story. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who produced the live-action Aladdin, are producing through their Rideback banner. Nick Reynolds of Rideback is executive producer and Katie Dippold wrote the most recent draft of the script.
Simien has met with Disney about several projects in years past before they chose him for The Haunted Mansion following his recent pitch.
Simien is most known for his 2014 film Dear White People, which he wrote, produced, and directed. He serves as the creator and executive producer of the Netflix adaptation of the same name. In 2020, his horror-comedy Bad Hair was also met with success.
Let’s hope this one is better than the first one. Come to think of it, that isn’t a high bar!
The guy that produced “Dear White People” and “Bad Hair” is getting ready to do the new Haunted Mansion movie. Disney knows how to find talent.

Disney already messed up Little Mermaid please do screw this one up! Don’t piss off all the fans who love this ride and all that it is and spend tones of money on the merchandise. Disney you have the power to make this right and really good.
I was looking forward to the Guillermo Del Toro film. After reflecting l, I don’t want any movie about the Haunted Mansion. If the movie makes any money they’ll cram the mansion full of new characters and IPs.
