1,800 Union Security Guards, Attraction Operators, and Meet-and-Greet Character Performers to be Laid Off at Disneyland Resort

As more news unfurls of the 28,000 Cast Member mass layoff across the Disney Parks division, details have been released regarding 1,800 Cast Members at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure.

According to the OC Register, Disney has notified Teamsters Local 495 and the Independent Employee Service Association that its Disneyland and Disney California Adventure employees will absorb more than 1,800 layoffs, including Disneyland security guards, attraction operators, and meet-and-greet characters.

These latest numbers bring the Disneyland Resort layoffs to 8,400 employees, or more than a quarter of Disneyland’s 32,000 Cast Members.

Teamsters Local 495 represents attraction operators, meet-and-greet characters, parking attendants, ranch hands, animal handlers, bus drivers, and more. 1,400 Cast will be laid off from the union.

Independent Employee Service Association, which represents the park’s security personnel, announced Disneyland will lay off 478 security guards.

Layoffs will go into effect on November 1, with health benefits available through the end of the year.

The Walt Disney Company restored the salaries of its Senior Executives in late August, when thousands of Cast Members were still on furlough.

We at WDWNT are supporting these Cast Members as much as possible. You can help too! Help raise money for the Cast Member Pantry by donating directly through WDWNT.

The donation-based organization also has an Amazon Wish List as well as Venmo—their account is: @castmemberpantry. Cast Members can email Cast Member Pantry or contact them via their Facebook page to book a 15-minute “shopping” window.
