Disney Movie Rewards to Become Disney Movie Insiders, New App Launching on September 26th

Disney fans will have more ways than ever to be rewarded when Disney Movie Rewards becomes Disney Movie Insiders on September 26th.

The transition was announced at the Disney Movie Rewards’ member celebration at Disney California Adventure. Members will continue to receive points for Disney films, either by seeing them in theaters or by purchasing them on home video, but there are some changes. Disney Movie Insiders will offer more points for purchasing movie tickets, and digital movie purchases will now also earn points.

And of course, there will continue to be a variety of rewards offered for these points, but new to the program is the ability to donate points to charity through Disney Team of Heroes. As The Walt Disney Company explains, “Disney Team of Heroes combines Disney’s beloved characters with the unparalleled creativity of its employees and cast members to bring classic stories to life in innovative ways that are designed to reduce the anxiety of a hospital stay.”

Also announced were a new app for Disney Movie Insiders, as well as “content, member exclusives, interactive experiences, and more.”

All Disney Movie Rewards accounts that have been logged into within the last five years will automatically transition to Disney Movie Insiders accounts on September 26th. All points in member accounts will be moved over during the transition. If you haven’t logged into your Disney Movie Rewards account in five or more years and wish to transition over to Disney Movie Insiders, you must log into your current account before September 23rd.

  1. Could be an improvement, but we have to see when it launches.

Pros: DMR launched way back when people bought a lot of DVDs and CDs, so the program was all about physical media. So, a change to recognize digital sales is welcome and long overdue. What would be really nice is if it will also recognize membership in Disney+. Why would I even buy downloads if I get those movies via Disney+? This is where the world is moving next, so might as well be ready now.

Cons: Not sure yet, my biggest fear is that they might take away some top tier awards I have been saving up for.

Something I’d like to see is them reward ticket sales of more movies. Disney as a company releases a lot of movies each year, but it seems that only a small number are eligible for rewards.

    • The CEO makes crazy money and they cannot start it as promised on Sept 26…..Not even an announcement on the new Disney Movie Insiders site what the delay is all about.
Hello house of mouse is anybody home.
If I lose my points during the transition process I will sue the Disney Corp.
That is unbelieveable. Shame on B. Iger

    • 10/1/19 (a week since the old website shut down) and new DIsney Movie Insiders website still not here. I’m now waiting impatiently!

    • first of October and still no Disney movie insiders I have almost 19000 points I hope they don’t lose them it took a long time saving them up

    • Yeah, I know just how you all feel, I’ve been waiting patiently too, I feel like their letting their fans when they said were going to do something ,and haven’t even done. I mean like what’s (holdup) did someone rob a bank? Come on . people , Computers aren’t that hard to work, unless your from the old school like my Mom , This is the 21st century ,Walt Disney

  2. Streaming will never have the visual clarity and sound quality you achieve from playing a physical Blu-Ray. So I hope discs continue to be sold far into the future. I only wish Disney would offer 3D discs in the U.S. instead of having to import them from the U.K.. And then you can’t redeem the rewards points for them. That’s where my last four movies have came from. Seems like kind of a rip-off to me. I’d also like to see more movie posters offered as rewards. Thanks for giving us something in the way of rewards, we know you don’t have to. Thanks again.

  3. Where is it? It’s 9/30. You should still allow us to log into our DMR accounts since this new version isnt ready yet.

  4. Its now October 1st…. still no site. why announce that it would be up and running if it wouldnt happen

  5. Ok hello all,I’m so lost oct .2019 do we all have to download the new app, from disney movie rewards to disney movie insiders,if yes whats it look like, whats the new web sight going to be,when will this be all ready and running again getting scared i lost all my points and stuff please help,Doris thank you to anyone

  6. 10/2 still not up. I have passes that I need to redeem for my daughters birthday on 11/3. This is ridiculous

  7. Dear Disney CEO Robert Iger,
C.C; News 2 Editor Danny Finnegan, WXII Editor Nikole began

Ok, it’s Oct. 2nd 2019 and Still No Disney Movie Rewards/ Disney Movie Insider.
I for one believe we the consumer(s) deserve an explanation!
Most if Not all of the Disney Movie Rewards members have purchased and continue to purchase Disney media/products to accumulate “points” for an advertisement on these products to support the Disney Corporation and continue our loyal patronage. Would anyone at #DisneyMovieRewards care to give an explination as to what the delay is, why we the consumer(s) have not been notified until after the anticipated Sept. 26th, 2019 update of Disney Movie Rewards to this “New” Disney Movie Insider?
When will this new platform launch? Will rewards member(s) be compensated for the delay? Will @Disney Honor their advertisement(s)? Or will this continue to be a ploy to entice buyer(s) to spend their time and money purchasing Disney product(s) containing an advertisement for a product or program that is no longer valid?
I know that n our area we have news channel(s) like #2 wants to know #WFMY News 2 #WXII that would love to know as well as The Disney Consumer.

    • What a major DISAPPOINTMENT! According to Disney’s previous statement stating there would be more to look forward to. It seems s thought it’s just the opposite! & Disney seems to care less and Not want to comment. “And of course, there will continue to be a variety of rewards offered for these points, but new to the program is the ability to donate points to charity through Disney Team of Heroes. As The Walt Disney Company explains, “Disney Team of Heroes combines Disney’s beloved characters with the unparalleled creativity of its employees and cast members to bring classic stories to life in innovative ways that are designed to reduce the anxiety of a hospital stay.”

  8. It has launched…not a surprise…most of the rewards were eliminated and now there are just a handful of items. Once again, Disney takes a step backwards.

    • Seems to be more than a step back! More like they have fallen off. Promising more & changing to offer less. Pretty sad. On a personal level rather that continue to support Disney as a loyal “Rewards member” & owning about every VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray, 3D Disney and Now 4K as well as Disney games, collectables, Toys and annual trips to Disney world with my wife 4 children & other family members. I believe it’s time to reinvest in other companies & attractions with more loyalty and Honesty toward their Loyal patrons & consumers!

    • Sure wish I had known to use up the points on the movies they were offering prior to the change. I would have thought they would still be able to offer them after the change at least for a little while. Very disappointed and now stuck with close to 4000 points that in their eyes are worth about $5 / 525 pts. Only real thing to get is gift cards.

  9. Sorry but this new site is a disappointment. I always traded my points for DVDs and now I can’t. Thanks for ruining a good thing. I preferred the movie rewards.

    • Exactly, I was looking forward to the new site to see if they added more not taking away the blue ray dvd option. Such a bummer but hopefully they bring it back so until we save points :-)

    • Looks like the only way now is to use your points to get eGift cards and then purchase DVDs at shopdisney.com. While it is nice to have more of a selection, it now involves an extra step in-between. Not only that, but it was nice not having to pay shipping (a single DVD is $5.95 shipping).

      • Ya I’m super disappointed. That’s the only thing I used my points for. It made so much sense!!! Making it more steps makes me lose interest. That was a great feature, what a drag! 👎🏻

  10. This is such 🤯🤯🤯,the word should of been passed around better, I had a whole bunch saved from YEARS, and had planned on redeeming them all for a special occasion at the end of this year (for a special disney fan) and now I cant 😭😭😭😭

  11. Yeah, the new website is up. No more DVDs and points have gone up. Not a good improvement for the loyal Disney fan.
I notice that not even an email (my DMR email that is) was making me aware it has launched.
Does anybody know why the Disney Studio Tour redeemed points have to be verified before they approve the redemption.
I tried two times and each time DMR came back and said I need to provide the code cards the points came on. Really. I don’t have them as the cards did not say they must be kept to redeem a Studio Tour!!!!
I truly feel like we all need to sue the Disney Corps.
Dont they want us all to have a magical day. At least that is what they say when you call them. It makes me feel actually bad when I have my valid points not being honored. Come on Disney. You are nothing without your loyal fans. Class action lawsuit. Anyone!

  12. What happened to the older movies and collectibles? All I have the option for is gift cards or new movie tickets. Very disappointed in Disney for this.

  13. Sorry , but for me…It stinks. I liked the cool stuff they used to have like movies and toys and pins. All I see now are Disney ecards. I don’t see any cool stuff now. I’ll just wait til movies come out on Netflix- even though at present I own hundreds of Disney dvds, blu rays, and even the ancient VHS ( I have the Little Mermaid VHS with the original Castle) I’ll probably stop using Disney rewards now even though I’ve used them and had fun with it for years. Used to be a Disney fan. the magic is gone. If you only knew what a big deal this is that Disney has disappointed me. …huge Disney fan since i was 4 when I would watch Wonderful World of Disney every Sunday.

    • I didn’t get my points that I have saved for more collectibles . I had over 1100 points now shows 0 points . I tried getting them to email me back but of course it keeps kicking me off of the sight . I buy all of the DVD’s and blue rays go to the movies , for extra points , I loved playing the games for points , I always bought collectibles with my points . I am very disappointed . I think the new rewards page is horrible , I wish they would have left it alone , I would get on the old sight several times a week , and look for new things being put on the rewards page and thought it was fun !! I don’t think its fun anymore and I think if I cant get a hold of anyone soon I will be done .it was fun while it lasted !!

  14. Disappointing doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of this “amazing” change. My family mainly redeemed our points for more movies, which apparently isn’t even an option now. The so-called rewards are obviously set up just to get you to spend more money on merchandise. Ooh! I got a $5 e-gift card. Let me go spend it on that $40 thing I never wanted! Doubt we’ll even bother in the future since this will most likely just be more junk to unsubscribe from.

    • Same here…..”Forget” Them and now it is apparent why they did the big “sale” at the end of September. I will enter movie tickets to keep my account alive but I am happy to buy Disney Blu Rays from Redbox used instead or streaming content from here on out

  15. It’s October 7,2019 and I’m still trying to enter my account. I’ve been a member of Disney Movie Rewards for over ten year and never had this much trouble.

  16. Just tried to add my points and get my digital copy, from the Toy Story Blu-ray 4k w/digital, that just came in and it’s telling me the number is invalid!!! :-(

  17. I cannot even get my # from Toy Story 4 to load, it says it’s invalid!! I always used rewards to get more movies, as of now, I do not see a way to get dvds for a reward. If not, I will be very unhappy. I have 4 grandkids, 3months to 12 yrs old, I always get movies for my house!!! I do not go to movies much so I do not even care about savings on tickets!! I give money to my own charitable places so I do not need help on that!! I hope website is just not completely finished because of this is it, it sux!!

  18. Well, it’s clear no one on this board has ever been involved in website or software development, and no one actually thought to reach out to DisneyInsiders directly. I’m no longer shocked at this.

Here’s reality: this change was probably done primarily to move the whole product/site/club to a new batch of technology – hardware, database, tracking, the works – and while they were at it, they decided to rename it and revamp the look. And unlike what many of you think, developers can’t just “flip a switch” to do this. There’s a ton and a half of work that goes into something like this. Add to that the Disney developers are not the best (those are at Google). These are guys who got their jobs because they knew someone. Demand for Disney jobs is so high that’s how it works.

As for the DVDs, I asked about them when the site relaunched, and got a direct answer: they’re fixing the kinks and will be restoring most of the rewards soon, hopefully within the month. Timeframes for this kind of thing are hard to pin down. See the paragraph above.

As for writing to Iger and “demanding” answers, get real. This is a first-world problem, people. You’re not starving on the streets, you’re not hooked on addictive unhealthy crud. It’s just a stupid rewards program from things you were gonna buy anyway. So chill, hang on, and find something more important to scream about. Seriously.

  19. Excited? Nope! I want to redeem my points for actual movies. That is what I signed up for and that is what I want. 😐

  20. Just redeem a lot more codes I recently got!!! Logged on and everything has changed? Okay… so got my points added in and where is the selection for the mystery dvd reward??? I don’t see it any where all I see are a few select rewards that’s really aren’t even that great?

  21. I hate the new site. Should have redeemed my points before the change. Maybe they will get the hint and put ti back.

  22. Totally disappointed. Just redeemed Toy Story 4 and was seeing what my points balance could get. No more movies or theatrical posters. Pretty much a waste now.

  23. Too bad the new website app doesn’t work. Disney surely broke it can’t get passed the log in where it says to continue we need the filling information your birth date it just sits there can’t update my account. If anybody has any suggestions please let me know. I have tried on app, 4 different tables with app and website and nothing works.
