According to a recent filing, work on the TRON Lightcycle Power Run roller coaster at the Magic Kingdom is set to be completed just in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
With construction starting February 6th, 2018, the filing claims the work will be complete by August 16th, 2021 (barring any delays). The attraction should open in Tomorrowland somewhere around that time.
Will they do a ceremony on Tuesday of breaking ground? I will be there and it will be cool to see!
I don’t believe so, but it’s usually not a public event.
Why does it take 3 and half years to build a rollercoaster?
Hah. Yeah. Six Flags builds them over a single winter. Even with a building and Florida’s all year building season, 18 months should be plenty.
Six Flags coasters don’t have show scenes.
The land clearing is going to take a long time as it contains waterways, untouched swampland, ETC. The actual coaster should take 2 years.
They built the entire Walt Disney World in 4.
The magic kingdom was not totally complete as well as the contemporary when wdw first opened.
And if they could build TRON Lightcycles with late 60’s building/environmental regulations like the entire Walt Disney World resort than it would be built a lot faster.
Agree with Matt here… no way it should take that long for a single roller coaster to be built. Disney bureaucracy at it’s finest here folks.
Really Matt, what knowledge do you have in construction?
Especially one that they already built in another park!
It will be fun driving by and seeing the land being cleared.. too bad it’ll take so long.
It’s on the other side of the WDW Railroad tracks, correct? Is a walkway going over or under the tracks (like Space Mountain)?
Over
Where is it going? Behind the speedway and Space Mountain?
mr corless thank you for this timely information. you once again prove you are # 1 in up to date Disney information.i have yet to see any of your updates be wrong over time.
Oh, so we have forgotten how long it took them to build mine train?? That took a very long time & no one should be surprised by the timeline. Maybe they could get it done faster but they aren’t going to lol.
We built Transformers in 9 months and demolished an old attraction in the middle of our park while building Harry Potter Diagon Alley but we have higher standards
Its called spreading money out people: with, a bunch of stuff (including Star Wars) opening next year, there is no need for Tron to open in the next two years to draw people to WDW.
Its called 4 or 5 hour lines, no fastpass, dailly breakdowns and people swearing to never come back. It would had been nice to have something new to draw some crowds away. Putting in a high capacity ride like Transformers before Harry Potters Diagon Alley opened was needed and it was a much better park experience at Universal
Yeah, but deodorant could also make a better park experience for people at Universal.
That´s what i had in mind… They already have Toy Sotry Land this year, Star Wars the next one… they need toi leave something new to get more people after that
I love Tron Lightcycle Power run rollercoaster and I can’t wait to ride it for the 50th Birthday for Disney World
they better start posting pictures and videos of the construction!! This will hopefully lead to TRON !!!!!!
