Walt Disney World Resort States Plans for Phased Reopenings Remain on Schedule

Last night, Disneyland Resort revealed that due to state restrictions, it would be postponing the reopening of its theme parks and resorts to an undisclosed date. Now, in a statement to the Orlando Sentinel, Walt Disney World has indicated that their reopening is still planned to go on schedule with no changes.

Yesterday, county officials stated that the decision to possibly postpone the reopening is completely up to Walt Disney World, and the state government. Given that their plans have already been approved, it’s unlikely that Disney will backtrack on their big reopening announcements.

Just this week, the resort launched its new Disney Park Pass system, allowing guests with confirmed Disney Resort hotel bookings to make theme park reservations for as early as July 11 for the reopening of Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios are slated to reopen on July 15. Previews for affinity groups are scheduled to take place prior to the July 11 reopenings.

This Friday, Annual Passholders will be able to make reservations, followed by existing ticket holders starting June 28. Yesterday, the state reported 5,508 new cases overnight, according to data published by the health department, bringing confirmed case totals in the state to 109,014.

  1. I will be staying away as the entire state is surging and Orange county is surging worse than the state as a whole.

  2. The way the pandemic is trending in Florida, I’m hoping the execs decide to postpone WDW’s opening. I get the economic impacts to the employees, Disney, and surrounding region. But the only real way to address the economics is to address the pandemic.
