Gianna posted about the gift package she received from Streisand, which included the Disney stock, along with DVD’s of the television specials “Color Me Barbra” and “My Name is Barbra,” on Instagram on Saturday.

It is unclear how many shares of Disney stock Gianna received, though reporter Claudia Harmata noted that the value of shares have risen around 370 percent in the last decade, making it historically a solid investment.

The killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police has sparked massive protests against racism and police brutality across the United States and around the world over the last several weeks. Major companies, including Disney, have made statements about their opposition to racism. Disney specifically has released statements and videos across the social media channels of their various brands, as well as made a public commitment to donate $5 million to nonprofit organizations focused on social justice, with the first $2 million going to the NAACP.

Here at WDWNT, we believe that #BlackLivesMatter is not a political statement, but one grounded on the basis of equality and justice for all.

  1. That was very nice. George Floyd’s death was uncalled for and the officers responsible should be charged to the full extent of the law. I am a former police officer by the way. I try to see things from the officer’s point of view because there is a lot the average person will never understand if they have not worn a badge and gun belt and go out on the street to protect and serve. But what they did, there is no way to excuse that kind of behavior and I hate the extra danger they have placed on good cops due to their horrendous actions. I do have one things that I do not understand about the black lives matter movement. If they can put this much effort, energy, and fervor into Mr. Floyd’s wrongful death, where is that same effort, energy, and fervor when so many more black lives are lost to gang violence every day. If that effort was put toward curbing the gang violence and other issues in some of the inner cities then a lot more black lives could be saved and hopefully put on a path to help all black families, lives, and future generations. Not trying to stir anything up or belittle how anyone feels, it’s just an observation that I was wondering about.

  2. I don’t understand why Streisand, a millionaire worth over $400 million, would “gift” anyone with stock in a failing company (Disney). Why not set up a scholarship for her? Why not pay the family’s bills for a year?

Taken from the original article @ People:

“Streisand, 78, also sent Gianna two of her studio albums, My Name Is Barbra and Color Me Barbra.” Um, thanks I guess?

“In a recent CNBC report, they calculated that an investment of $1,000 in Disney 10 years ago would be worth more than $4,600 as of February 2020 for a total return of around 370 percent.” Why not calculate today’s value of Disney’s stock instead of 10 years ago? Disney was in a better place financially 10 years ago.
