UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter Issues Revised May 27 Date for Reopening of Disney-Owned Shops and Eateries at Disney Springs

The Hollywood Reporter has revised an interview with Eric Clinton, President of the UNITE HERE Local 362 union to reflect a May 27 reopening date for World of Disney and other Disney-owned locations throughout Disney Springs, as opposed to the Memorial Day Weekend date that was issued earlier.

The original publication stated the following:

“The next phase will start four days later when Disney retail shops, such as World of Disney Store, and Disney eateries reopen…”

That has since been revised to:

“The next phase will start seven days later when Disney retail shops, such as World of Disney Store, and Disney eateries reopen…”

The “next phase” counts down from the initial May 20 reopening date for Disney Springs, which is when select third-party restaurants and retail locations will reopen. The article still states that an additional 59 custodians will report back to work on May 24.

A May 27 reopening for the rest of Disney Springs seems like a far more prudent approach, especially given the vast new health and safety guidelines that will be in place that both guests and Cast Members will have to become accustomed to.

Will you be headed to Disney Springs at some point next week for its grand reopening? Let us know in the comments.

  1. In the past few days, I’ve read two stories about customers behaving badly at restaurants that had just reopened: an ice cream parlor that shut down again after abusive customers bullied staff; and a recent incident at a Red Lobster on Mother’s Day.

Along with the risks of the virus, I hope Disney is prepared for misbehavior of this sort as hundreds of people swoop in expecting pre-pandemic levels of service.

    • After all we’ve endured, and the patience and fortitude it has taken to arrive at this point, it’s been shocking to hear of things like this. Even at stores, I’ve repeatedly seen feisty adults arguing with weary employees because they don’t want to wear the required masks. 😳

    • Don’t worry. They’ve been observing how their buddies the CCP enforces compliance so I’m sure they’ll be ready to take down any undesirable who dares not to comply with their orders.

  2. I rather wait and go when everything is re-open (including Disney shops) since I am not a true local.

  3. Absolutely not. I live close enough that I could go anytime I wanted to just stroll around. I have no intention of going until the fall, unless someone is buying me dinner at Morimoto.
