REVIEW: New Vegan Breakfast Le Fou Festin at Be Our Guest Restaurant in the Magic Kingdom

Good morning from the Magic Kingdom! We’re here bright and early to have breakfast at Be Our Guest and try the new vegan option, Le Fou Festin. Well, this was certainly an experience. As soon as I arrived and placed my order, I took a seat in the Library part of the restaurant. My vegan breakfast was brought out quickly, which was a nice surprise, but then I felt something was off about it.

I asked the Cast Member if the pastries were the vegan pastries. He said yes, to which I pushed further, asking if these were the same pastries served to all guests in the restaurant. Again, he replied yes. I said, “they should be vegan pastries, I don’t think these are vegan.” He looked at me and said, “there’s no meat in them.” Now, it’s totally expected that someone who works in a restaurant should have no clue what “vegan” is, right? Well, he went to find someone else, and she came over and took the plate of incorrect pastries away and went to fetch new ones.

The table next to me was discussing how their vegan meal looked too “real” as they examined it. I offer up my plate for reference, and it’s clear they’ve given this guest a regular Feast a la Gaston. The Cast Members came over and took his plate away and brought him… another non-vegan breakfast. Again, this table turns to me and my food to examine and it’s clear they’ve brought him real eggs again. The Cast Members went and got him the correct breakfast on the third try, but it’s just unnerving to see mistakes made when it comes to something like this. Now that everyone has the correct breakfast, let’s give it a try.

These are plant-based items, so the eggs do look a little weird. The texture isn’t terrible, but the taste is awful. I ate a few bites just trying to wrap my head around the flavor. I thought they were gross, but I had to get a second opinion from a vegan, just to be sure. The guest next to me agreed they were disgusting and he was basically forcing himself to eat them for the protein. So, as for the “eggs”, I would reconsider them.

The “bacon” and “sausage” were surprisingly good. If it weren’t for the texture and looks of the bacon, I might have eaten this without knowing. It has a very smoky flavor to it, which I enjoyed. The sausage was excellent, almost to the point I really wondered if this was vegan sausage or a potential mix up. It’s got a ton of seasoning packed into it. The “meat” portion was tasty and I would gladly eat again.

The potatoes weren’t bad, just pretty basic. The fruit was sad, though. It looked good, but I bit into a piece that was so hard, I spit it into a napkin. Sorry, there’s just some things I can’t do.

The correct pastries might have been the best part of the meal. There’s a slice of lemon cake with a strawberry type of icing, a chocolate cake with icing, and a chocolate chip piece. They were amazing and I ate every bite of these little cakes.

Overall, this might be a nice alternative, but we were still hungry afterwards. And with the mix-ups we’ve seen this morning, you may just want to double check that your meal is correct. Breakfast is $29, which is a little pricey, but you are partially paying for the experience to eat inside the castle. We’re happy to see more plant-based options on menus around the parks and resorts, though. Bon apetite!

  1. Just glad this is an option! Going in a few weeks with a breakfast res at BOG. I was just going to get oatmeal on the kids menu. That would be less expensive though, so maybe I still will lol.

  2. That’s horrible! In addition to eating most vegetarian, I’m also allergic to gluten and must eat GF. IF they’d brought that food to me and I’d taken a single bite, I’d be sick for 3-4 MONTHS! Disney used to be my safe place to eat. But, after being gluten-ed there 3 times over the last year and a half, I’m extremely cautious now. I no longer trust their allergy menus. I won’t eat at Disney w/o speaking to a chef or coordinator. Your experience is the stuff of nightmares. Thanks for sharing if only to remind us that we must be alert.

      • How kind of you to say that. How would you describe severe gastro issues for months? If you don’t believe that’s the stuff of nightmares…

On that note, I’d like to call out the wonderful chefs at The Plaza at MK and the Contempo Cafe who prepared delicious vegetarian and GF meals for me yesterday.

  3. I;ve gotta say, as a former Food Scientist I find it hard to wrap my mind around Vegan eggs. Texture wise you might get away with it if you like scrambled but it’s near impossible to get a flavor of egg or mask the base being used to make the egg(mung bean, TVP). Maybe if the eggs are highly seasoned? I think the texture would also be an issue. It’s a bit different with the plant-based meat options. :)
