PHOTO REPORT: Epcot 8/20/19 (New Rope Drop Procedure, More Construction Walls, Food and Wine is Almost Here, and Snacking Around World Showcase)

Good morning from Epcot! Let’s see what’s happening in the park today.

Future World

Get used to this view. Construction walls are going to be a way of life in Future World for the next couple years.

Epcot8 19 19 2

The Leave-a-Legacy monuments may finally be gone, but there’s still a lot of work to go.

Because of the construction walls, the “rope drop” procedure is a little bit different than it used to be. They let guests get in line for Spaceship Earth before 9 AM, just to soak up some of the crowds.

At 9 AM sharp they let everyone shuffle slowly towards their destinations.

Epcot8 19 19 5

It’s almost an even split between The Land and Test Track. Everyone heads straight to the big-ticket rides. This photo was taken at 9:01 AM.

This is the center of Future World at 9:05 AM. If you like peace and quiet, just wait five minutes and you’ll have the Fountain of Nations to yourself.

Epcot8 19 19 13

Left or right before the fountain are the only directions you can go at the moment. Both of the southern Future World paths are closed for expansion at the moment.

Signage on the construction walls directs you to what’s still open.

On the back side of Mouse Gear, the playground is still open, even though almost all the pathway around it is inaccessible.

World Showcase

Epcot8 19 19 27

I received word from a Cast Member that most of the trees around the facade for O’ Canada are going to be replaced with artificial ones.

Epcot8 19 19 25

They’ve filled in the planters where the old trees used to be.

Most of the food booths for Food and Wine are already in place. Now they’ve started installing the merchandise booths, There are several identical ones throughout World Showcase.

Ah, the roaming herds of World Showcase cast members. Must be training week for a festival!

Epcot8 19 19 40

Looks like the Italy booth is basically ready to go!

Epcot8 19 19 41

Guardians of the Galaxy – Awesome Mix Live is no more. Hopefully it comes back next summer, but in the meantime, prepare yourself for the Eat to the Beat concert series.

Epcot8 19 19 42

They’re getting the America Gardens Theater ready for the new shows.

I thought the concrete work was almost done in The American Adventure, but it looks like they’re extending the brick even further!

Epcot8 19 19 46

New brick is stretching across the main pathway now.

They’re also carving out some more of this decorative grey brickwork.

Snacking Around the World

Epcot8 19 19 30

A tradition of mine when I would visit Epcot (before I moved to central Florida and basically starting living here) would be to buy one weird snack from each of the World Showcase pavilions.

Epcot8 19 19 31

You’d be surprised at the interesting things you can find in the countries.

Epcot8 19 19 37

Germany has a lot of good options, but not all of them are too unusual.

Epcot8 19 19 38

Epcot8 19 19 39

I do love me some chocolate hippos though.

Epcot8 19 19 34

China has a very strange line-up of snacks.

Epcot8 19 19 352

These appear to be seaweed flavored Chinese goldfish crackers. I don’t know if I trust the “Marine Boy” on the package, though.

Epcot8 19 19 48

Japan has my favorite options. There’s always something new to catch your eye.

Epcot8 19 19 49

…Like this grandmother juggling chili peppers.

“Oh! Juicy!”

Or perhaps this “Super Lemon” sour candy. You never know what you’ll find.

Happy Halloween! Look at this shirt! It’s… something, that’s for sure…

Epcot8 19 19 16

Here’s a little tip, if you want somewhere relatively quiet to chill: This room on the second floor of The Seas (directly above Turtle Talk) is where they have their tropical fish nursery.

Epcot8 19 19 15

It’s usually empty, full of cute fish and pretty quiet. I got to be there at feeding time today!

Epcot8 19 19 23

Lastly, I’ll leave you with this fun thing I found today. This area in the Sportsman’s Shoppe in the United Kingdom pavilion has a little relic of days gone by.

Epcot8 19 19 21

Part of the Agent P World Showcase Adventure involves this golf display. However, when they changed it over from Kim Possible to the current Agent P version, they never updated these trophies.

Epcot8 19 19 24

I don’t know how Ron Stoppable won a golfing tournament, but good for him! Maybe if they update the World Showcase Adventure again, they’ll finally change the trophies.

That’s all from Epcot for today! We’ll keep you updated on everything happening the park, especially with Food and Wine 2019 starting next week. Thanks for reading!

  1. So is there a new rope drop for International Gateway. It’s SO annoying to get near Soarin only to realize you’re 10 minutes behind.
