CONFIRMED: Disney Has Announced End Date and Replacement of IllumiNations at Epcot

After nearly 20 years of delighting Epcot guests through music, fireworks, fire torches and more, Disney has finally announced that “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” will be ending in the second half of 2019.

WDW News 2

“The Disney Parks Live Entertainment team is already busy creating new thrills to debut immediately following the conclusion of “IllumiNations,” continuing the tradition of nightly entertainment on the World Showcase Lagoon.”

“IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” is currently planned to run to the end of summer 2019.

All Disney will say about the all-new nighttime fireworks spectacular coming to Epcot’s World Showcase Lagoon is that it will be part of the park’s ongoing transformation.

  1. Happy to hear it will be ending about a year from now! I have a trip in December, so I’ll get to see it one last time. IIRC, Wishes! ended just a few months after they announced HEA.

  2. Thank goodness a replacement is coming soon… I was really looking forward to it when my family went a month ago. When it was over, I thought to myself, “that was it?” Not nearly as good as I remembered it from previous trips. It definitely feels like a 20-year show that is in desperate need of a refresh.

  3. One truth: It will be replaced by something cheaper to run. Something that makes Disney Money and cross promotes movies or other avenues. It will not be in the interest of a positive guest experience as Illumination’s is. It’s just there to enjoy. Those things are disappearing.

  4. I will miss Illuminations: Reflections of Earth is my favorite Nighttime Entertainment in Epcot. I can’t wait to see the new nighttime entertainment in Epcot. And the Official Name of the New Nighttime Entertainment in Epcot.

  5. I just hope they don’t over do the new show with digital graphics plastered everywhere and skimp on the fireworks, pyrotechnics, and water features. The physical effects are much cooler than CGI effects. Once you’ve seen a building transformed into a box of presents you’ve seen them all. Epcot deserves holograms dancing across the water…if they want to truly keep with the intention of the park.

  6. Hmmm, why do I hear Star Wars music when I see “don’t worry it will be part of the ongoing park’s transformation.”
